Reading Without Limits

The End is Near

As our school year comes to a close, all I can think about is how time as flown by!

It’s May, tomorrow is Teacher Appreciation Day, standardized tests are coming and going, and for some of us we are about to go on end of year trips.

Here’s my one  piece of advice… which you can take or leave!

Take a look at your year’s scope.  What have you taught? What haven’t you taught.

Is your list of untaught aims long or short?

If it is short:

Breathe a sigh of relief! You worked it this year and made it through your scope and sequence.  Now, don’t plow on. Go back and re-teach the most essential aims.  The more you spiral, the better.  Then, teach a week of stamina aims.  These aims are critical to the success of your students long term.  After you have spent several weeks re-teaching and stamina-ing, finish up your year with your favorite unit.

If your list is long:

Breathe a sigh of relief! You worked it his year and re-taught and spiraled all necessary skills until they stuck.

Get my point? 🙂
